MotherToBaby, part of the Organization of Teratology Information Specialists (OTIS), has introduced two new educational resource hubs for healthcare providers, including a webinar library and a collection of downloadable infographics. The launch coincides with National Birth Defects Awareness Month, observed each January, which highlights the importance of birth defect prevention, education, and support for families. In the United States, about one in 33 babies is born with a birth defect, which remains a leading cause of infant mortality. These new tools are designed to provide providers with evidence-based, easy-to-use resources for patient counseling and clinical practice.

The MotherToBaby Webinar Library features on-demand presentations led by nationally recognized experts addressing topics related to exposures during pregnancy and breastfeeding, such as medication safety, environmental risks, and infectious diseases. All webinars are free to access and intended to help providers deliver accurate, timely guidance to their patients. The Infographics Library includes visually engaging graphics on common exposure questions, covering subjects from vaccines and radiation to everyday environmental concerns. These infographics are designed to be easily shared with patients, used in presentations, or incorporated into community outreach efforts.

Lorrie Harris-Sagaribay, MPH, President of OTIS/MotherToBaby, emphasized the importance of equipping healthcare providers with trusted, evidence-based resources. She said that providers are often the first point of contact for families with questions about pregnancy and breastfeeding exposures, and these new materials simplify their work by delivering accurate information in formats that are easy to access and share. She added that the initiative aims to prevent birth defects and improve outcomes by ensuring reliable information reaches both providers and the families they support.
By launching these resources during National Birth Defects Awareness Month, MotherToBaby reinforces the vital role of healthcare providers in prevention and education. The organization encourages providers to explore the webinars and infographics, share them with patients, and integrate them into their clinical and community practices to support healthier pregnancies and improved infant outcomes.
