GE HealthCare launched CareIntellect for Perinatal, a cloud-based SaaS solution designed to offer meaningful insights that improve care for mothers and babies. This application combines data from various clinical systems into a single platform, helping clinicians monitor patient status, record events, review past records, and track remotely. The main goal is to provide real-time visibility into the health of both the mother and the fetus. CareIntellect for Perinatal is the second app in the CareIntellect suite, intended to assist health systems in easily adopting and scaling interoperable care tools.

By collecting vital signs such as uterine activity, blood pressure, fetal heart rate, and maternal SpO2 in a chronological format, the app streamlines administrative tasks and reduces the mental effort required by clinicians. This allows them to instantly view patient conditions and access key events without having to manually combine data from different sources. This simplification helps care teams focus more on patient care instead of managing data manually.

The system’s ability to integrate vital sign data and multiple sources improves communication across care teams. Clinicians can confidently track maternal and fetal health trends through a consistent user experience, whether they are at the hospital or in remote settings. Real-world feedback from labor and delivery experts contributed to the design; HCA Healthcare worked with physicians and nurses during the development process. Jeff Caron, Chief Digital and Technology Officer for GE HealthCare’s Patient Care Solutions, stated that clinical feedback was essential in shaping the app’s design to ensure it has the greatest impact at the point of care.
Dr. Michael Schlosser, Senior Vice President and Chief Transformation Officer at HCA Healthcare, mentioned that the collaboration gathered insights from 29 physicians and 85 nurses across 12 hospitals to make sure the tool meets the needs of caregivers and supports the best outcomes for mothers and infants. Dr. Owen Solad, Vice President of Clinical AI, Digital Transformation & Innovation at HCA, explained that the aim is to integrate this tool into clinical workflows, giving insights directly when and where they are most needed while ensuring patient safety.
CareIntellect for Perinatal is built on GE HealthCare’s cloud-first, AI-powered architecture and is part of a unified set of applications. Hosted on AWS, these apps share common data infrastructure, single sign-on, centralized management, and easy updating features. This setup enables healthcare providers to quickly introduce new features without dealing with complex, separate integrations. GE HealthCare will showcase CareIntellect for Perinatal at HLTH 2025 (booth #3232) in Las Vegas from October 19 to 22.
