Clinical laboratories generate billions of test results each year, creating a vast resource of information that can be used to deliver more personalized testing and better patient care. To fully leverage this potential, laboratory professionals need specialized training in data analytics and data science. Until now, no comprehensive program specifically targeted the application of data science in laboratory medicine.

The certificate program was developed by ADLM’s team of data science experts to provide a complete overview of how analytics can enhance laboratory practice. Participants will learn how to apply different types of data analysis in pathology and clinical laboratory settings to improve decision-making and patient outcomes. The curriculum covers essential best practices, including handling healthcare data securely and addressing common laboratory data challenges. It also explores how machine learning, a form of artificial intelligence, can be used in laboratory applications to augment diagnostic capabilities.

Dr. Paul J. Jannetto, President of ADLM, said, “We are excited to offer this certificate program to laboratory professionals and pathologists who want to advance their understanding of data science. Our members identified the need for training that not only teaches the fundamentals of data analytics but also highlights its critical role in laboratory medicine. Those who complete this program will be equipped with knowledge that sets them apart in a field where data and analytics are increasingly shaping patient care.”

This initiative positions ADLM members to gain valuable expertise at the intersection of data science and laboratory medicine, preparing them to use analytical tools to improve clinical outcomes and drive innovation in healthcare.
