Reid Waldman, M.D., CEO of Veradermics, has been named Entrepreneur of the Year by BioCT, Connecticut’s life sciences trade organization, in partnership with Shipman & Goodwin LLP, one of the state’s largest law firms. Veradermics is a late clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on developing potentially first-in-class treatments for common dermatologic conditions, including pattern hair loss. The award, established in 2013, recognizes Connecticut entrepreneurs who have made transformative contributions to the life sciences industry locally and beyond. Dormer Stephen, Partner at Shipman and BioCT board member, praised Dr. Waldman as a pioneer in dermatology whose work addresses critical gaps in patient care.

Dr. Waldman joins a distinguished group of past recipients, including Kat Kayser-Bricker of Halda, Stephen Bloch of EvolveImmune, and scientific innovators Craig Crews, Ranjit Bindra, and Jonathan Rothberg. Dr. Waldman said he is honored to receive the award and highlighted recent milestones at Veradermics, including advancing the company’s lead candidate, VDPHL01, for the treatment of pattern hair loss in both men and women, populations underserved by current therapies. He emphasized the company’s commitment to raising standards in dermatology and fostering innovation that benefits patients.

Jodie Gillon, President and CEO of BioCT, noted that Dr. Waldman exemplifies the combination of clinical expertise and entrepreneurial skill that strengthens Connecticut’s life sciences ecosystem, attracting top investors and advancing groundbreaking therapies. Under his leadership, Veradermics has raised $150 million in Series C financing, progressed VDPHL01 into Phase 3 and registration-directed trials, and developed a strategy focused on first-in-class therapeutics for dermatology and aesthetics.
Dr. Waldman, a board-certified dermatologist, has authored more than 100 publications, including a textbook on dermatology for primary care providers, and earned multiple accolades including the American Academy of Dermatology’s Excellence in Patient Care award. He received his BA and MD from the University of Missouri-Kansas City 6 Year BA/MD Program and completed his dermatology residency at the University of Connecticut with distinction in clinical trials.
The award was presented on December 4, 2025, at the BioCT annual holiday party, co-hosted with the Yale Life Sciences Pitchfest, which highlighted breakthrough research in therapeutics, medical devices, and digital health.
