BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company), a global leader in medical technology, has announced that Duncan Regional Hospital in Oklahoma has become the first hospital in the United States to implement BD Alaris EMR Interoperability with the MEDITECH electronic health record system. This milestone represents a major advancement in patient safety, workflow efficiency, and clinical support. The integration combines BD’s widely used bidirectional infusion interoperability, now active in over 960 sites nationwide, with MEDITECH’s EHR system. This expansion allows BD Alaris EMR Interoperability to be compatible with all three leading EHR systems in the U.S., enabling more healthcare organizations to benefit from advanced infusion safety and operational efficiency.

“Patient safety is our highest priority at Duncan,” said Roger L. Neal, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of DRH Health. “With the ongoing nursing shortage, this integration eliminates repetitive manual tasks, giving our nurses more time for patient care and improving overall efficiency. We believe this integration will benefit our nurses and patients alike.”
Health Technology Insights: Aceso and Samsung Partner to Enhance Patient Engagement
BD Alaris EMR Interoperability connects infusion pumps directly to MEDITECH’s Patient Care and Patient Safety solution. Clinicians can scan to verify patients, medications, and smart pumps, send infusion orders from MEDITECH directly to BD Alaris pumps, and receive real-time infusion status updates in the EHR. This reduces manual programming errors, ensures correct medication administration, and enhances overall patient safety while supporting accurate near real-time documentation.
“We are proud to support Duncan Regional Hospital as the first U.S. site to go live with BD Alaris™ EMR Interoperability integrated with MEDITECH,” said Tiffany Murphy, U.S. General Manager and Vice President of Medication Management Solutions. “This achievement allows us to extend our market-leading interoperability to a broader range of healthcare organizations. With nearly 1,000 active sites and a consistent record of adding new hospitals each month, BD remains committed to improving infusion safety and hospital efficiency across all major EMR platforms.”
Emily Pacheco-Valente, RN, Product Manager at MEDITECH, added, “This partnership highlights our shared commitment to patient safety and operational efficiency. By integrating BD Alaris™ with MEDITECH’s platform, we deliver additional safety features to one of healthcare’s most complex processes. We anticipate significant benefits for both patients and caregivers through this collaboration.”
The integration at Duncan Regional Hospital sets a benchmark for U.S. hospitals, combining advanced technology and streamlined clinical workflows to support safer, more efficient patient care and enhance nurse satisfaction.
