Verily has announced a long-term partnership with UCHealth, the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, and RefinedScience to transform how data is used and healthcare is delivered. This collaboration will use Verily’s advanced healthcare technology and knowledge to improve patient care and precision medicine by applying cutting-edge artificial intelligence, digital tools, and medical research. A key part of this project is the consolidation of biomedical data by CU Anschutz and UCHealth onto Verily’s platform, which will create high-quality, AI-ready data pipelines and help develop new AI and machine learning models in areas such as oncology, cardiovascular health, neuroscience, musculoskeletal disorders, ophthalmology, and transplant medicine. Researchers from CU Anschutz will use Verily Workbench, a secure research environment that handles large amounts of data while maintaining strong governance and consent standards.

The CU Anschutz campus offers a great environment for this project because of its collaborative and innovative culture, which fosters research breakthroughs and excellent clinical care. CU Anschutz Innovations plays a major role by supporting research, data science, clinical care, and investment efforts that help turn new discoveries into real-world applications quickly. UCHealth contributes through its CARE Innovation Center, which develops, tests, and improves new solutions to support better clinical decisions and patient outcomes directly in healthcare settings.
Steve Hess, Chief Information Officer at UCHealth, expressed his excitement about the project, highlighting how it will change the way health data is managed and used to provide personalized care using modern technology. He pointed out the importance of organizing and analyzing large, complex datasets, which will help researchers and doctors find new breakthroughs and provide better care to patients.

In addition, CU Anschutz and UCHealth have partnered with RefinedScience, a joint venture that combines high-quality multiomic data with expert scientific knowledge and technology to make drug discovery and development smarter. RefinedScience helps identify and validate new drug targets, design more efficient clinical trials, and bring back stalled drug candidates to development. Together with Verily, RefinedScience will work on creating new methods to analyze complex biological data, further increasing their impact.
Kimberly Muller, Vice Chancellor for Innovation and Biotechnology and Executive Director of CU Anschutz Innovations, called this partnership a new model for health system collaborations. She said it will be important in speeding up life-changing discoveries and making them more impactful for patients. The collaboration will also use Verily’s products, expand technology strategies across the system, co-create new capabilities, and explore new ways to generate revenue. Dr. Richard Zane, Chief Medical and Innovation Officer at UCHealth, shared his enthusiasm for the potential of this partnership to speed up care innovation. He believes Verily’s technology will allow them to build solutions at a faster pace and larger scale than ever before, ultimately improving patient care and saving lives. The work between RefinedScience and Verily has already shown promising results with AI models that accurately analyzed complex medical reports from patients with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, achieving over 95 percent accuracy and accelerating data extraction by thirty times compared to manual methods. Looking ahead, the partnership plans to expand its focus to include more data types and therapeutic areas, while continuing to make progress in urgent and critical diseases. Stephen Gillett, CEO of Verily, expressed pride in working with UCHealth, CU Anschutz, and RefinedScience. He highlighted their shared goal of using technology to improve patient care. Gillett noted that Verily’s platform helps turn complex healthcare data into clear, actionable insights, enabling collaborators to speed up scientific discoveries and enhance healthcare outcomes for patients and communities.
