WellSky, a global health and community care technology and services company, today announced the availability of WellSky Extract for Home Health, a powerful new tool that uses Artificial Intelligence to extract key information from patient-related documents and pictures of drug labels to populate data into the electronic health record (EHR), reducing manual documentation time, helping to ensure medication information is transferred accurately, and improving the patient and clinician experience.
“In the short time our team has been using the technology, we’ve already seen significant benefits — the most important being the increase in valuable time our clinicians are spending caring for patients instead of doing manual data entry.”

On average, home health patients take 13 medications, and the average time to manually input the required information about a single medication is 1.5 minutes. This means that for the average patient, the full medication reconciliation process takes nearly 20 minutes. In comparison, early adopters of WellSky Extract are completing the medication reconciliation process for a single patient in 8 minutes on average – a 60% time savings compared to the industry average.

“WellSky Extract is a game-changer for our clinicians,” said Haley Brown, vice president of clinical services at Concierge Home Care, a leading home health organization in Florida and early adopter of WellSky Extract. “In the short time our team has been using the technology, we’ve already seen significant benefits — the most important being the increase in valuable time our clinicians are spending caring for patients instead of doing manual data entry.”

Available within the OASIS workflow of the WellSky Home Health EHR, WellSky Extract uses AI to analyze patient medication information from various sources — including referral documents, hand-written medication lists, and photographs of medication bottle labels — and then populates medication information into the necessary fields within the patient’s EHR, while allowing for manual review and confirmation. Utilizing Google’s Vertex AI platform and Gemini models, the WellSky Extract tool reduces the need for clinicians to manually gather and enter medication information into the patient record. This results in significant time savings and allows clinicians to focus more time on patients. WellSky Extract is the first of many AI-powered SkySense tools designed to increase operational and clinician efficiencies. Future additions to SkySense include WellSky Scribe, an ambient listening and transcription tool, and WellSky Summarize, which will provide synthesis of medical records for review and compliance checks.
