Clarivate Plc, a global leader in intelligence solutions, has launched two new AI-powered features for its Innography platform: the Innography AI Classifier, which improves portfolio benchmarking, and the Innography SEP Analyzer, which supports standard essential patent (SEP) negotiations. These additions align with Innography’s mission to connect patent insights with business strategy, helping organizations make quicker and more informed choices in managing their patent portfolios, licensing, and commercialization efforts.

The AI Classifier uses supervised machine learning and large language models along with data from the Derwent World Patents Index to offer classification results with up to 97 percent accuracy on the first try. This tool allows patent teams to quickly label large numbers of patents, enabling them to view both their own and their competitors’ portfolios through a personalized perspective. It works whether or not there is existing training data and can reduce what used to take weeks into just minutes—helping organizations make strategic decisions faster.

The SEP Analyzer helps organize and categorize standard essential patent data, while also providing clear visual summaries and reports. Licensing or patent strategy experts can use it to get objective views of competitors’ SEP holdings, which supports more effective discussions and negotiations during licensing processes.

These new tools are designed to streamline critical tasks in patent strategy, reducing the time and effort needed for complex analysis while improving accuracy and insights. By automating large-scale classification and making SEP data more digestible, the updates help legal, R&D, and business teams work more efficiently and collaboratively.

Shandon Quinn, Vice President of Patent Intelligence at Clarivate, said the SEP Analyzer is a great example of Clarivate providing top-tier data through tools that support important business decisions. He added that together with the AI Classifier, these new features mark a major advancement in using AI and enhanced data to guide patent portfolio strategies and commercialization plans.
