Abridge’s ambient AI platform improves the quality of patient care

UCHealth, a leading nonprofit health system in Colorado, is partnering with Abridge to deploy enterprise-level artificial intelligence across its clinical locations. This expansion follows a nine-month pilot in 2025 involving 250 UCHealth providers, which showed measurable improvements in both patient experiences and provider efficiency. Currently, nearly one-third of UCHealth’s 6,000 doctors, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants are using the Abridge platform. The system employs ambient AI technology to capture patient conversations during visits and produce draft clinical documentation directly in the patient’s electronic chart. This allows providers to concentrate fully on patient care without the distraction of note-taking.

Dr. CT Lin, Chief Medical Information Officer and internal medicine physician at UCHealth, said that during the pilot, providers found that Abridge strengthened patient interactions while reducing administrative workload. He added that patients now leave appointments with a clear after-visit summary in plain language and an updated care plan that contains more detailed information than previously possible. Across UCHealth care sites, the technology is being implemented to streamline documentation, with providers maintaining oversight by reviewing AI-generated notes, making necessary refinements, and finalizing patient care decisions.

Dr. Shiv Rao, CEO and Co-Founder of Abridge, said the partnership demonstrates the potential of combining clinical expertise with advanced technology. He explained that the collaboration is helping to refine clinical documentation, support team-based care, and strengthen trust through careful evaluation. In addition, the rollout will assist UCHealth in developing new workflows for inpatient units. Kathy Deanda, RN, Senior Director of Virtual Health and Neurosciences at UCHealth, emphasized the organization’s commitment to reimagining documentation processes across all aspects of patient care, ensuring that AI enhances both the patient and provider experience.
