Anterior, a clinician-led artificial intelligence platform designed for health plans, has announced a $40 million funding round, bringing its total capital raised to $64 million. The round was oversubscribed and included continued support from NEA and Sequoia Capital as well as new investment from FPV and Kinnevik. Anterior’s platform enables health insurers to deploy AI directly into clinical and operational workflows, pairing advanced technology with embedded clinicians who work alongside health plan staff to optimize accuracy, accelerate adoption, and ensure measurable outcomes.

Since its $20 million Series A in June 2024, Anterior has expanded its production deployments across major U.S. health plans, including Geisinger Health Plan, and established strategic integrations with enterprise healthcare platforms such as HealthEdge and its GuidingCare system. The company actively supports organizations covering 50 million lives and has pioneered its Forward Deployed Clinician model, a hands-on approach that reduces deployment risk and accelerates time-to-value.

Dr. Abdel Mahmoud, MD, Physician, former Google Product Leader, and CEO of Anterior, explained that most AI in healthcare fails because implementation is an afterthought. He emphasized that Anterior was built on the premise that AI only succeeds when deployed by clinicians alongside clinicians. He noted that the company has invested equally in implementation and technology, a strategy validated by the market. Anterior’s platform now achieves 99.24 percent clinical accuracy, independently validated by KLAS Research. One enterprise customer reported that scaling Anterior across hundreds of nurses reduced clinical review cycles by about 75 percent and boosted staff satisfaction above 90 percent.

Valerie Limpus, Chief Operations and Technology Officer at MedWatch, said that initially she was skeptical about AI’s ability to work at scale in clinical workflows, but after deploying Anterior, productivity increased dramatically and nurses responded positively. George Gjermano, Chief Strategy and Product Officer at WNS-HealthHelp, praised Anterior for its collaborative approach, saying they actively solve problems with partners rather than just providing technology.

To further strengthen governance and health plan expertise, Anterior added senior healthcare leaders as advisors, including Secretary David Shulkin, M.D., former Secretary of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Peter Long, former Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer at Blue Shield of California, and William Golden, former CEO at UnitedHealthcare. Pegah Ebrahimi, Managing Partner at FPV Ventures, said that Anterior stands out in a crowded AI landscape by delivering tangible return on investment.

The new funding will support further expansion of production deployments, new clinical and operational applications, integrations with healthcare ecosystems, and the continued acceleration of Anterior’s rapid deployment model, which averages just five days.
