Westchester Medical Center Health Network has announced that Dr. Peter G. Paige will take on the new role of Executive Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer. With many years of experience at top academic medical centers, Dr. Paige is known for his work in improving healthcare quality and leading major changes in health systems. His appointment is a key step in WMCHealth’s effort to improve clinical operations and patient care across its nine-hospital system in the Hudson Valley.

Dr. David Lubarsky, President and CEO of WMCHealth, expressed confidence in Dr. Paige’s leadership. He described Dr. Paige as a forward-thinking executive who has consistently raised the bar for care in some of the country’s most complex hospital systems. He said that Dr. Paige’s arrival marks the start of a new era for WMCHealth, one focused on improving clinical quality, patient safety, and expanding leadership among physicians. Dr. Lubarsky also mentioned that this move is positioning WMCHealth to become a leader in healthcare innovation.
In his new role, Dr. Paige will supervise clinical initiatives across WMCHealth’s integrated system, bringing together more than 1,000 doctors and care providers under a unified plan for excellence. He will also lead the organization’s graduate medical education programs, which train over 500 medical residents and fellows each year in partnership with New York Medical College. His position is expected to help align the network’s clinical practices and education goals with the needs of patients and communities in the region.

Before joining WMCHealth, Dr. Paige served as Chief Clinical Officer at the University of Virginia Health System, where he worked to unify clinical services and made significant improvements in patient outcomes, safety, and operational performance. Earlier in his career, he was CEO and Hospital General Director at Albany Medical Center Hospital. There, he managed a difficult financial situation and helped create a stable base for future growth. He also held key leadership roles at Jackson Health System in Miami, Florida, where he was Executive Vice President, Chief Physician Executive, and Chief Clinical Officer. During his time there, he oversaw more than 1,100 residents and fellows and played a central part in achieving nationally recognized improvements in care quality.
Dr. Paige expressed excitement about his new role and working with Dr. Lubarsky and the WMCHealth team. He praised the organization’s vision and believed that WMCHealth has the potential to become a national leader in both academic medicine and community-based care. He said the focus will be on setting new standards in patient safety, quality, and medical innovation, with the goal of delivering care that matches the best institutions in the country. He also stressed the importance of ensuring every patient in the Hudson Valley receives excellent treatment close to home.
Dr. Paige has a medical degree from SUNY Health Science Center at Syracuse and a Master’s in Medical Management from Carnegie Mellon University. He is Board Certified in Emergency Medicine and has held academic positions at the University of Virginia, University of Massachusetts, and University of Miami. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the American Association for Physician Leadership, showing his influence in healthcare leadership at the national level.
Dr. Paige is set to start his new role at WMCHealth on October 15.
