The Menopause Society has received a generous $5 million grant from the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation, founded by philanthropist and New York Mets owner Alex Cohen. This funding will accelerate the digital innovation phase of their NextGen Now initiative, aiming to build a comprehensive digital ecosystem that leverages advanced technology to provide easy access and up-to-date educational content. Launched in June, the NextGen Now program focuses on delivering thorough training to current and future healthcare providers, equipping them to better care for women during midlife.

Menopause continues to be one of the most neglected areas in healthcare despite impacting a growing number of women each year. With NextGen Now, The Menopause Society plans to reach 25,000 healthcare professionals over the next three years and improve outcomes for millions of women managing the challenges of menopause.

Dr. Stephanie Faubion, Medical Director of The Menopause Society, expressed gratitude for the foundation’s support, saying that this funding empowers them to expand their mission and embrace new opportunities to increase their impact. She shared enthusiasm about the future progress the organization can achieve with this momentum.

The grant will support The Menopause Society’s vision of a digital-first strategy for NextGen Now, incorporating elements such as an integrated digital learning platform, virtual and augmented reality tools, and a versatile mobile application.

Alex Cohen, President of the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation, emphasized the importance of this support by noting that women’s needs during menopause have been overlooked for too long. He stated that no one should suffer in silence or confusion due to a lack of information.

This innovative approach aims to address the current educational gaps in menopause and midlife women’s health, which remain insufficiently covered in medical training. Dr. Faubion highlighted that although their certification program helps clinicians improve their expertise, it cannot fully compensate for the absence of specialized education in many medical schools. She explained that NextGen Now will offer healthcare providers a hands-on learning experience, backed by the latest research and best clinical practices.

NextGen Now is designed as a multi-year, multifaceted effort involving various projects and programs. To maintain and grow its success, ongoing support is needed, particularly for research and data collection to further inform and enhance the initiative.
