Campbell is passionate about design, especially during the early planning stages. He believes healthcare design goes beyond just building structures; it’s about fulfilling a civic responsibility. Every design choice has the ability to improve patient care, help healthcare staff, and benefit the community. “Great healthcare design starts with curiosity,” Campbell explained. “It means asking thoughtful questions, considering different perspectives, and creating spaces that really support the people who use them. Paying attention and working together is key to making environments that have a real impact.”

Before joining HED, Campbell worked on several highly recognized healthcare projects. He was a key part of the design team for the Philip & Susan Ragon Building at Massachusetts General Hospital, a large 1.2 million-square-foot hospital campus currently being built in Boston. He has also led major efforts on projects like the Ruth Bader Ginsburg Hospital in Brooklyn and the Rainier Square mixed-use development in Seattle.

Campbell is a licensed architect in New York and North Carolina and is a member of both the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). His mix of technical skills and leadership fits well with HED’s team-based design approach, which brings together architects, engineers, and planners to create smart and sustainable solutions.

Brett Paloutzian, Healthcare Sector Business Leader at HED, praised Campbell’s design approach, saying, “Jacob’s curious and collaborative style matches perfectly with HED’s mission to solve tough challenges with meaningful results. His leadership bolsters our presence in Boston and shows our focused effort on healthcare design.” As HED continues to grow its healthcare projects in Boston, Jacob Campbell will play an important role in creating innovative, forward-thinking designs that enhance patient experiences, support healthcare professionals, and strengthen local communities.
