“Cigna Healthcare has a long history of helping people access behavioral care when they need it most, and now we are expanding our approach to everyday mental wellness challenges like stress, emotional strain, and difficulty sleeping,” said Eva Borden, Chief Product Officer, U.S. Employer, Cigna Healthcare. “By combining Headspace’s clinically validated programs with our own tools, we are helping customers address issues early and promote better overall mental health.”
Data from The Cigna Group’s Rise of the Anxious Worker report shows mental health conditions in the workforce rose 20 percent between 2020 and 2024. Nearly one-third of employees report experiencing anxiety, whether diagnosed or self-identified, which can negatively affect engagement, health outcomes, and workplace productivity. Workers with anxiety often experience poorer physical health, fewer healthy habits, higher rates of chronic conditions, greater job stress, and double the likelihood of burnout, all of which can increase turnover and reduce organizational efficiency.

Supported by more than 70 research studies, users report a 37 percent reduction in anxiety symptoms after eight weeks and a 32 percent drop in depression symptoms in 30 days. Adults in the Headspace Sleep Program report a 29 percent decrease in insomnia symptoms. Headspace and Cigna will collaborate to develop custom content exclusively for Cigna customers.
“Everyone deserves support before stress, anxiety, depression, or burnout escalates, but creating effective entry points to care has been the challenge,” said Tom Pickett, CEO of Headspace. “By working with Cigna, we are making mental health support more accessible, affordable, and part of daily life. Early action leads to better outcomes and can prevent the need for more intensive interventions. This benefits members and the healthcare system as a whole.” Beginning January 1, 2026, Headspace for Cigna Healthcare will be available to over seven million members through employer benefit plans, with additional access expanding throughout the year. This benefit is separate from the global Headspace offering for mobile employees through Cigna’s Global Health Benefits.
