Ascertain, a healthcare AI company that simplifies administrative tasks through smart automation, has announced that Molly O’Neill will join as its Chief Commercial Officer. O’Neill has over 30 years of experience leading teams in health systems, startups, and global organizations. Most recently, she was the Chief Strategic Partnerships Officer at Aegis Ventures, where she helped create the Digital Consortium—a new kind of startup lab working with more than 14 health systems, which together generate over $100 billion in revenue.

In her earlier career, O’Neill held key roles such as Vice Chancellor for Duke Health, where she focused on growth in clinical operations, education, and innovation. She also led various business units and projects at Medforth Global Healthcare Education Group, Tenet Healthcare, Mass General Brigham, Ascension Health Network, and Inova Health System, among others.

Mark Michalski, MD and CEO of Ascertain, said O’Neill’s background makes her the ideal leader for expanding the company’s commercial reach. He mentioned that she has the skills to bring new ideas into complex systems and build solid partnerships that help drive adoption and growth.

Ascertain’s technology automates administrative work across the healthcare system and provides support to clinical teams using AI. The company has already implemented its systems in Northwell’s 28 hospitals, resulting in faster prior authorization processes—67% quicker—and an 80% reduction in the number of clicks needed per case. Earlier this year, Ascertain raised $10 million in Series A funding, led by Deerfield Management, to support its mission of making AI-based workflow solutions more widely available, which aims to reduce costs and improve care.

Mark Michalski also leads Deerfield Intelligence, Deerfield Management’s data and AI division. Ascertain was co-founded by Aegis Ventures and Northwell Health. John Beadle, Co-Founder and Managing Partner at Aegis, said that including leaders like O’Neill in their portfolio companies is a key part of how Aegis helps businesses grow and strengthen their position in the market. O’Neill expressed excitement about joining a company that helps reduce the complexity and cost of administrative work in healthcare. She added that by easing the workload on providers, payers, and health systems, Ascertain can help these organizations increase staff capacity, cut costs, and deliver more timely and effective patient care.
