The clinic at 4902 Valleydale Road is intended to increase access to specialty rheumatologic care for patients in and around the Birmingham area, including neighboring communities of Hoover, Vestavia Hills, and Homewood. Dr. Kurt Blake, a highly skilled rheumatologist, leads the treatment team. Dr. Blake earned his medical degree from the University of the West Indies and then completed his internal medicine residency at Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center in Georgia.

To further specialize, he pursued a rheumatology fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. His extensive training provides him with skills to give compassionate, expert care tailored to each patient’s unique needs. He has also worked as a sports medicine physician to the Jamaican national soccer team and as a pharmacology instructor at St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada. “My aim is to deliver individualized, empathetic care that empowers patients to control their conditions effectively,” Dr. Blake said. “By combining sophisticated medical therapies and education, we want to enable patients to remain active and enhance their quality of life.” The Birmingham clinic provides a wide range of services, from diagnosis and management of diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, gout, osteoporosis, and Sjögren’s syndrome.
