Altera Digital Health, a leading global provider of health IT solutions, has announced the launch of its latest innovation, Sunrise Axon. This new solution is designed to deliver clean, real-time patient data directly into clinical workflows within the Sunrise electronic health record (EHR) system, now available to healthcare providers across the United States. By providing normalized and deduplicated data at the point of care, Sunrise Axon aims to improve patient outcomes while boosting provider efficiency and satisfaction.

Developed in collaboration with Health Gorilla—recognized as both a Qualified Health Information Network (QHIN) and a Qualified Health Information Organization (QHIO)—Sunrise Axon enables seamless and secure data exchange across a nationwide network. It supports connectivity with organizations that follow the Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement (TEFCA), allowing providers to access clinical information from a wide range of sources. This includes data from over 220 million patients, more than 750,000 clinicians, and approximately 147,000 care facilities, along with lab networks, health information exchanges (HIEs), and imaging providers.

Jay Adams, Executive Vice President of Sunrise at Altera Digital Health, emphasized the practical benefits of the new solution. He explained that Sunrise Axon helps clinicians make faster, better-informed decisions by giving them easy access to a comprehensive view of patient history—all within their existing workflows. According to Adams, the integration eliminates the need for third-party data brokers and reduces common challenges such as missing information or manual workarounds.
Beyond clinical benefits, Sunrise Axon also supports financial and operational goals. By improving access to external patient data, the platform fosters better coordination of care and smoother transitions between providers. This can lead to reductions in unnecessary testing and related costs. Additionally, healthcare organizations may see cost savings by using Sunrise Axon in place of managing multiple connections with various state and regional HIEs.
