Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, a leading global law firm serving technology, life sciences, and growth companies, announced that Karen Deschaine, a nationally recognized corporate life sciences attorney, has relocated from the firm’s San Diego office to Boston. This move reinforces the firm’s long-term commitment to one of the country’s most dynamic life sciences hubs.

Deschaine brings nearly twenty years of experience advising biotechnology and therapeutics companies across all stages of development. Her expertise covers private financings, public offerings, corporate governance, strategic transactions, securities matters, and supporting both private and public companies. She has guided clients from early-stage formation through capital raising, complex deals, and successful exits and is widely recognized for cultivating strong, long-lasting relationships with leading life sciences companies and venture investors.

Lou Lieto, head of Wilson Sonsini’s Patents and Innovations Department and a partner in the firm’s Boston and Washington, D.C., offices, noted that Deschaine’s move highlights both the growth of the Boston office and the strength of the Northeast life sciences ecosystem. He said that having her based locally allows clients to benefit from deeper relationships and more direct support as the region continues to expand in innovation and investment.

Beyond her client work, Deschaine is actively involved in initiatives supporting women and veterans launching businesses, frequently speaking at industry and community events. She serves on the Life Science Cares Boston board of advisors, helping develop programs that improve healthcare access, workforce development, and community support.

During her time in San Diego, Deschaine received numerous accolades including the San Diego Business Journal’s “Leaders in Law” for M&A, “Women Who Mean Business,” and San Diego Metro Magazine’s “Women Who Impact San Diego” and “Top 40 Under 40.” Her disciplined approach stems from her education at the United States Military Academy at West Point and service as a U.S. Army officer commanding two companies.

Reflecting on her relocation, Deschaine said she is eager to bring her company-building experience to Boston, where leading research institutions, cutting-edge biotech, and active investors converge. She believes being part of Wilson Sonsini’s integrated life sciences team allows her to deliver greater impact for clients while supporting the firm’s strategic priorities.

Since opening in 2016 with three attorneys, the Boston office has grown to 85 professionals serving clients in biotechnology, medical devices, and pharmaceuticals. Fully integrated with the firm’s global network, the team combines expertise in intellectual property, venture financing, capital markets, and corporate law to provide comprehensive, high-quality legal support.
