Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg, Missouri, an acute care hospital supported by 19 affiliated ambulatory clinics, has chosen the MEDITECH Expanse electronic health record to connect care services across its hospital and clinic network. The decision signals a return to MEDITECH after the organization previously moved from a legacy MEDITECH system to a different EHR vendor. Leadership said the change reflects a renewed focus on adopting dependable, forward looking technology that simplifies daily operations, strengthens reporting capabilities, and supports better patient outcomes through a unified and modern platform. The implementation will move forward under the theme Mission Expanse Charting the Future Together, underscoring a collaborative effort across departments to modernize care delivery while maintaining the organization’s independence.

Darinda Dick, President and CEO of Western Missouri Medical Center, said the financial benefits of the transition are significant and will allow the hospital to expand capabilities that were once out of reach, including comprehensive Population Health and Oncology tools. She explained that the platform aligns well with the needs of independent community hospitals that want to preserve local control while continuing to deliver high quality care. According to Dick, the ability to invest in added functionality without straining resources played a major role in the final decision.

Hospital leaders also cited Expanse’s interoperability features as a key advantage, noting that clinicians will have access to a more complete view of patient information without relying on another organization’s record system. The flexibility to manage system updates internally and adapt workflows in real time was seen as essential for an organization that values operational autonomy. Through MEDITECH as a Service, the medical center will maintain its cloud strategy while gaining a scalable infrastructure designed to support long term growth. Drew Glover, MD, Informatics Committee Chair at Western Missouri Medical Center, said the Expanse platform delivers a configurable and efficient environment that supports providers and staff in every care setting. He added that the organization expects measurable improvements in both patient and clinician experience, along with smoother workflows that position WMMC for sustained success.

As part of the rollout, the hospital will adopt Expanse Patient Connect, a communication solution that enables automated and secure two way text messaging with patients throughout their care journey. Leaders believe this capability will strengthen engagement, improve appointment coordination, and enhance follow up communication. In addition, MEDITECH’s integrated Revenue Cycle system was viewed as a strong asset, offering financial management tools that align with the hospital’s operational objectives. By bringing inpatient and outpatient services together on one EHR, WMMC anticipates greater efficiency in reporting and access to more meaningful analytics that inform decision making. Users who evaluated the system also responded positively to its intuitive design and navigation, which are expected to ease the transition for both clinical and administrative teams.

Helen Waters, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at MEDITECH, said the company is pleased to renew its relationship with Western Missouri Medical Center and support its long term strategy. She noted that adopting Expanse represents an investment in a single connected platform that equips care teams with the tools they need to deliver high quality services efficiently. Waters added that the partnership reflects a shared commitment to innovation and community focused care, ensuring that patients remain at the center of every advancement.
