Swedish Healthcare Region Halland is expanding its partnership with Sectra, the international medical imaging IT and cybersecurity company, by adopting digital pathology to enhance cancer care. This transition replaces traditional microscopes with a fully digital workflow, allowing instant remote access to tissue images, easier sharing for second opinions, and improved efficiency in diagnostics across the region.

Region Halland has long used Sectra’s solutions in radiology and breast imaging, and the addition of digital pathology will provide a scalable, vendor-neutral platform that strengthens data security and minimizes time spent on manual processes.

Pathologists will eventually be able to perform the full diagnostic process within a single application, including ordering tests and reporting results, while also integrating AI tools to improve efficiency and accuracy.

The 7-year contract signed in November 2025 is valued at 37.5 million SEK, with 23.9 million SEK guaranteed. Sectra’s pathology module is part of its broader enterprise imaging solution, which unifies imaging operations, reduces costs, and supports growth from individual specialties to full enterprise-wide adoption.
