Magellan Health, Inc., a company focused on behavioral health solutions, has reported significant improvements in pediatric care through its Collaborative Care Model (CoCM). Pediatric primary care providers who have adopted this model are experiencing smoother access to mental health services, greater provider satisfaction, and meaningful progress for young patients and their families.

The CoCM approach integrates evidence-based behavioral health support directly into everyday pediatric care. Rather than referring patients to external specialists, providers can deliver mental health interventions within the same care setting. This model has been validated by over 90 randomized controlled trials, reinforcing its effectiveness in improving health outcomes.

Magellan Health conducted an analysis of a pediatric clinic serving more than 7,900 patients to assess the impact of CoCM over a 12-month period. Out of 229 children aged 8 and above who were referred to the program, 84% enrolled. Of those, 56% either remained engaged or completed the program. Among the graduates, there was a 40% reduction in PHQ-A scores, indicating substantial improvement in symptoms of depression or anxiety.

Dr. Caroline Carney, Chief Executive Officer at Magellan Health, explained that their CoCM solution is built on a strong foundation of research and emphasizes data-driven care. She noted that by embedding behavioral health tools directly into pediatric clinics, providers are empowered to deliver streamlined and confident care without disrupting existing workflows.

This team-based approach, Dr. Carney believes, leads to more efficient coordination and better long-term outcomes for children. It also provides families with greater peace of mind, knowing that mental health support is readily available within the same setting as their primary care provider.
