New AI-powered solution within Flow by Innovaccer codes 80% of encounters autonomously in seconds, tackling coder shortages, revenue leakage, and rising cost per encounter
Innovaccer, a leading healthcare AI company, has announced the launch of Flow Capture, an autonomous medical coding solution designed to address one of the most persistent operational challenges in healthcare – manual coding and documentation bottlenecks. The innovation introduces a new AI-driven approach to medical coding, enabling health systems to automate complex workflows while improving coding accuracy and revenue cycle efficiency.
For decades, healthcare organizations across the United States have relied on large teams of coders and traditional computer-assisted coding tools that still require manual review of every clinical chart. As clinical documentation grows more complex and coder shortages intensify, the traditional model has become increasingly difficult to sustain. Industry estimates suggest that billions of dollars are lost annually due to coding errors, missed charges, and preventable claim denials.

Flow Capture introduces a fundamentally different operating model by autonomously coding approximately 80% of patient encounters without human intervention. The remaining complex cases are automatically routed to certified coding professionals with an AI-generated clinical context, allowing coding teams to focus on exceptions and high-value clinical judgment instead of repetitive validation tasks.
The system integrates seamlessly into the clinical workflow from the beginning of a patient encounter. Before a visit begins, Flow Capture prepares physicians with a concise overview of the patient’s medical history, active conditions, and care gaps. During the consultation, an ambient AI scribe captures the physician–patient conversation and generates clinical documentation in real time, allowing physicians to maintain focus on patient care rather than administrative tasks.
As the encounter concludes, a built-in clinical documentation improvement (CDI) assistant identifies documentation gaps and ensures that the clinical note is structured and complete before it is signed. Once finalized, Flow Capture analyzes the documentation, extracts clinical entities, and automatically maps diagnoses and procedures to appropriate ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, and E/M codes. The system applies current CMS and payer guidelines before preparing the claim for submission.
Abhinav Shashank, co-founder and CEO of Innovaccer, emphasized the importance of automation in modern healthcare operations. “Every American health system is under pressure to accomplish more with fewer personnel and narrower margins. Because it dictates how care is converted into income, coding is at the heart of that pressure. By automatically categorizing most interactions with transparency and compliance, Flow Capture adds predictability to that time.
To ensure regulatory compliance, Flow Capture embeds payer and CMS logic directly into the coding engine. The platform applies ICD-10-CM rules, CPT guidelines, HCPCS codes, NCCI edits, and modifier logic, while also identifying documentation gaps using MEAT criteria before claims are submitted. Each coding decision includes a detailed audit trail and medical decision-making rationale, providing compliance teams with full transparency.

Flow Capture is part of Flow by Innovaccer, the company’s AI-powered revenue cycle suite designed to modernize healthcare financial operations. The broader platform connects clinical documentation, coding automation, and revenue cycle management to streamline the entire financial lifecycle of a patient encounter.
Innovaccer is initially introducing Flow Capture through a limited early adopter program with selected health systems, where participants will track performance metrics such as first-pass claim accuracy, chart closure speed, and coder productivity. As healthcare systems face mounting financial pressure and workforce shortages, autonomous coding solutions like Flow Capture represent a new foundation for efficient, AI-enabled healthcare revenue operations.
