Encompass Health Corporation, the country’s largest operator of inpatient rehabilitation hospitals, and Vanderbilt Health revealed their joint plan to build a standalone, 40‑bed inpatient rehabilitation facility in Barton Village, a mixed‑use community in Lebanon, Tennessee. The proposed hospital will primarily serve patients recovering from serious conditions like stroke, brain or spinal injuries, amputations and complex orthopedic issues. It will offer round‑the‑clock nursing support as well as intensive physical, occupational, and speech therapies.

The design includes all private rooms, a modern therapy gym with advanced technology, a suite mimicking daily-life activities, an in-house dialysis unit, pharmacy, dining area, and a therapy courtyard. Scheduled to open in 2028, the facility will serve Wilson, Smith, Trousdale, and Macon counties, and marks the second joint-venture rehab hospital between Encompass and Vanderbilt, joining their existing Vanderbilt Stallworth Rehabilitation Hospital in Nashville.

Mat Gooch, President of Encompass Health’s Northeast region, said they are “excited to expand our partnership with Vanderbilt to bring high‑quality inpatient rehab close to home for patients in Wilson, Smith, Trousdale, and Macon counties.”
Jane Freedman, MD, Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s Deputy CEO and Chief Health System Officer, noted that “as demand for complex post‑trauma and post-transplant recovery grows, this new facility will ensure patients receive specialized, hospital‑grade rehabilitation care in a state‑of‑the‑art setting staffed by our expert clinicians.”
The hospital is expected to offer comprehensive rehabilitation services for patients with neurological, orthopedic, and other complex medical conditions, combining advanced therapies with hospital-level care in a convenient location for the surrounding communities.
