CustoMED’s platform, which is based in the cloud, uses artificial intelligence, automation, and 3D printing to create customized surgical tools and implants based on a surgeon’s pre-surgery plan. This process cuts down the time it takes to make these tools from weeks to just minutes, so they can be made on-site or by approved partners. The technology works well with current surgical processes, helping to reduce errors during surgery, make results more predictable, and allow surgeons to keep full control of the operation. The platform has already been used in hundreds of successful surgeries, and thousands more are planned for the coming year.
Or Benifla, co-founder of CustoMED, said the company’s tools make orthopedic surgeries more accurate by providing affordable, personalized solutions in real-time directly in the operating room. He said the goal is to make computer-assisted surgery fast, easy to access, and common, turning a once-specialized procedure into a standard for all patients.

CustoMED was founded by Dr. Amit Zabatani, Or Benifla, and Alon Jacobi. It started from the 3D Printing & Innovation Lab at Sheba Medical Center, which was launched in 2018 by Dr. Dina Orkin along with the co-founders of CustoMED. The lab has helped with hundreds of surgeries across different hospital departments, making 3D printing a regular part of patient care. CustoMED works within Sheba Medical Center’s ARC Innovation ecosystem, which supports innovations led by clinicians and helps get new ideas out to the world quickly.
Prof. Eyal Zimlichman, founder and director of ARC Innovation and chief innovation, transformation, and AI officer at Sheba Medical Center, said that CustoMED improves accuracy and gives surgeons more control, and it fits smoothly into existing clinical workflows. The platform quickly moves from imaging to the operating room without affecting safety, governance, or quality. The seed funding will help CustoMED expand into more orthopedic procedures, support regulatory approvals in the U.S. and EU expected by 2026, and increase its on-demand manufacturing worldwide. Raissa Hacohen, managing partner at Longevity Venture Partners, added that CustoMED’s platform gives surgeons around the world access to personalized planning and tools, improving the standard of care in orthopedic surgery.
