Community Health Systems, Inc. announced that its subsidiary CHS has finalized the sale of select ambulatory outreach laboratory assets across 13 states to Labcorp for approximately $194 million in cash before transaction costs. The assets include certain patient service centers and in-office phlebotomy locations previously operated by CHS-affiliated health systems.

The transaction is designed to expand access to Labcorp’s comprehensive laboratory services, which include specialty testing, advanced data analytics, and digital tools. CHS-affiliated health systems will continue to manage their inpatient and emergency department laboratories and provide laboratory services for hospital-based needs such as imaging and pre-admission testing.

Kevin Hammons, President and Interim Chief Executive Officer of Community Health Systems, stated that completing the sale allows CHS-affiliated health systems to concentrate on core services while improving the patient experience. He added that Labcorp’s scale and technological investment enhances its ability to deliver outreach laboratory services efficiently to patients and healthcare providers.
Mark Schroeder, President of Labcorp Diagnostics and Chief Operations Officer, said the transaction will expand access to innovative laboratory services for CHS-affiliated patients and providers and advance the shared goal of improving health outcomes in local communities. This move builds on Labcorp’s ongoing strategy of partnering with health systems and regional laboratories to improve patient care, increase service access, and drive operational efficiencies.
